Awards Season at Cross Keys Village
While many of us receive our news digitally these days, most older adults – including Cross Keys Village residents – prefer to relax with a hot-off-the-press morning paper while enjoying their morning coffee. Keeping up with local news stories is especially important to those who live and work in our community, since many were born and raised here.
As it happens, both our local papers hold yearly contests inviting their readers to vote for their favorite businesses and organizations. This fall, as in years past, we were humbled to find out that readers of the Gettysburg Times and Evening Sun newspapers gave Cross Keys Village the top spot for care and services.
We won the Readers’ Choice Award from The Evening Sun in two categories: Senior Care/Living and Retirement Community/Assisted Living. Gettysburg Times readers voted us number one “Pick of the Counties” in the Senior Living category. Our Gettysburg / Hanover area is home to several excellent senior living providers, which makes us doubly honored to accept these awards.
Our relationship with both our local newspapers is mutually beneficial. Their editorial staff don’t hesitate calling on us when they need accurate inside information about senior living trends. On the other hand, print advertising is still a significant tool for us and we are grateful to work with the newspapers to promote our services in daily editions and retirement-specific supplements. Recently, we’ve partnered with Gettysburg Times, sponsoring their new Operation Connection initiative, which provides free papers to all seniors in local long-term care setting with a wish to “read all about it!”
We honestly love our local newspapers. Whether it’s the independent, small-town Gettysburg Times, or the Evening Sun with its connection to the USA Today media giant, both are relied upon by our community for local headlines, sport news, comics… and popularity contests!
